La Mafia organiza competencias de caballos clandestinas custodiadas con Kalashnikov en Sicilia.

El 8 de mayo, en Palagonia, Catania, en el núcleo de Sicilia, un individuo empuñaba un rifle Kalashnikov en medio del estruendo de las bocinas y los gritos de la multitud, mientras escoltaba una carrera de caballos ilegal sobre una motocicleta. La Mafia, que se nutre de los ingresos generados por el tráfico de drogas, aprovecha cualquier oportunidad para exhibir su poder de esta manera.
El joven, vinculado al clan mafioso Cappello-Bonaccorsi, fue detenido tras las indagaciones llevadas a cabo por la Polizia di Stato de Catania, que llevó a cabo una orden de detención preventiva emitida por la Fiscalía del Distrito de Catania.
Durante la búsqueda en el domicilio del joven, las autoridades confiscaron la vestimenta que portaba en el vídeo en el que se le observa disparando al aire, así como el patinete que utilizó durante su fuga imprudente.
El sospechoso enfrenta cargos por la tenencia ilegal de un arma de guerra, delito que se agrava por su conexión con la mafia.
La misma orden judicial también abarca a los jinetes que tomaron parte en la carrera: identificados y denunciados por la Unidad Montada de la Jefatura de Policía, se enfrentan a acusaciones por participar en competiciones clandestinas de caballos.
En los días subsiguientes a la competición, los caballos fueron hallados en los establos donde se encontraban y fueron confiscados.
Lo sucedido es una clara evidencia de que las actividades mafiosas siguen estando muy arraigadas en ciertos lugares de Italia y que sus miembros continúan creyendo que pueden actuar impunemente, desafiando la legalidad, confiando en que no serán arrestados. En este caso, el plan no les ha salido como esperaban.

On May 8, in Palagonia, Catania, in the heart of Sicily, an individual wielded a Kalashnikov rifle amid the noise of horns and the shouts of the crowd while escorting an illegal horse race on a motorcycle. The Mafia, which feeds off the income generated by drug trafficking, seizes any opportunity to display its power in this way.
The young man, linked to the Cappello-Bonaccorsi mafia clan, was arrested following investigations carried out by the Polizia di Stato of Catania, which executed a preventive detention order issued by the District Attorney's Office of Catania.
During the search of the young man's home, authorities confiscated the clothing he wore in the video where he is seen shooting into the air, as well as the scooter he used during his reckless escape.
The suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a war weapon, a crime that is aggravated by his connection to the mafia.
The same judicial order also encompasses the riders who participated in the race: identified and reported by the Mounted Unit of the Police Headquarters, they face accusations for participating in clandestine horse competitions.
In the days following the competition, the horses were found in the stables where they were kept and were confiscated.
What happened is clear evidence that mafia activities remain deeply rooted in certain areas of Italy and that their members continue to believe they can act with impunity, defying legality, trusting that they will not be arrested. In this case, the plan did not go as they had hoped.
