The Civil Guard opens fire against drug boats in Murcia.

The Civil Guard has proceeded to arrest four skippers of vessels that were transporting migrants from the African continent to the Iberian Peninsula via landings on the shores of Murcia. Two boats capable of carrying dozens of people on each trip have been seized, which are alternately used for human trafficking, drug smuggling, and fuel in the maritime area separating Africa from Spain. Two of the four detainees were captured after an operation that had been anticipated days earlier by specialized media, in which the criminals attacked the Armed Institute with their boats. It has been confirmed that the agents were forced to defend themselves, using their service weapons.

The actions took place a few days ago, at which point the Civil Guard initiated an investigation aimed at identifying those responsible for the irregular introduction of people through the Murcia coast using narco-boats operating as taxi boats.

Apparently, the migrants were beaten to keep their heads down, and they were even threatened and assaulted with a machete and pepper spray when they approached the coast, forcing them to jump quickly, even though many of them did not know how to swim.

While the migrants were receiving attention from the Civil Guard patrols present at the scene, a patrol boat from the Maritime Service of the Corps followed the trail of the suspicious vessel, which had begun its flight out to sea. This was located 12 miles southeast of Monte Cenizas, where the two skippers were arrested.

The seized vessel, measuring 15 meters in length and equipped with four high-powered engines, was transported to the port of Cartagena.

On September 2, a new action by the Civil Guard resulted in the interception of another inflatable boat, measuring 10 meters in length and equipped with two engines, at Cabo Cope in Águilas.

This operation began when the Civil Guard, through the Integrated External Surveillance System, detected the presence of a suspicious vessel in the waters of Águilas, dedicated to the illegal transport of people. The patrol boat and a helicopter from the Corps managed to locate a high-speed semi-rigid boat that was anchored near Cabo Cope.

Upon noticing the proximity of the authorities, the crew started the engines and began their escape at high speed, ignoring the orders of the Civil Guards. Despite repeated instructions issued from the patrol boat to stop, the suspects continued their navigation, reaching the point where both vessels—the Civil Guard's and the fleeing boat—were in a confrontational situation, which forced the agents to perform a sharp maneuver to avoid a head-on collision.

Subsequently, the suspicious vessel positioned itself perpendicular to the official patrol boat and attempted to execute a dangerous maneuver that, given the proximity of the two vessels, could have resulted in a collision with the Corps' boat.

Faced with the impossibility of avoiding the collision, one of the agents drew his service weapon and fired two warning shots, without injuring any of the crew members.

However, the suspicious vessel managed to hit one of the sides of the Corps' patrol boat. It then began its flight out to sea, while its crew disposed of fuel canisters by throwing them overboard.

Once recovered from the collision, the Civil Guards resumed the pursuit and managed to catch up to it, board it, and proceed with the arrest of its two occupants. The vessel still had 28 jerry cans of gasoline. Following the collision and impact, as reported days earlier, three Civil Guards suffered minor injuries.

The investigation carried out by Civil Guards specialized in probing criminal offenses related to facilitating irregular immigration, drug trafficking, and its derived effects, established a link between this vessel and the one that had been intercepted in the waters of Cartagena days earlier.

In both cases, high-speed and large-sized vessels were used, equipped with several engines of up to 350 horsepower each.
