Agentes del Servicio Marítimo de la Guardia Civil de Murcia arrestaron a dos individuos que se encontraban en una lancha de gran potencia, la cual, además de estar involucrada en el transporte de sustancias ilegales, también estaba dedicada al tráfico de personas en el Estrecho de Gibraltar. Esta información fue proporcionada por la delegación del Gobierno en la mencionada provincia del sureste de España, en una operación que se llevó a cabo apenas unos días después de que se desmantelara un entramado de gasolineras flotantes en la región.
El operativo, según las mismas fuentes, tuvo lugar en aguas cercanas a la Península Ibérica, a tan solo doce kilómetros de Monte Cenizas. Fue en este punto donde los agentes del Instituto Armado sorprendieron a los dos ocupantes y procedieron a la incautación de la embarcación.
La operación policial concluyó con el arresto y posterior remolque de la lancha, la cual contaba con cuatro motores fueraborda que le otorgan una potencia de 1.200 caballos de vapor, hasta el puerto. Los detenidos, ya enmanillados, fueron igualmente trasladados a tierra por parte de la Guardia Civil.
A la espera de que se realicen las investigaciones pertinentes, y dado por hecho que los sospechosos están implicados en el tráfico de personas, queda por determinar si se les imputará un delito contra la Salud Pública. Es seguro que se les acusará de contrabando, ya que la mera posesión de embarcaciones como la que fue decomisada constituye un ilícito en España desde 2018, año en que entró en vigor el Real Decreto correspondiente sobre la materia.

Agents from the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Murcia arrested two individuals who were on a high-powered boat, which, in addition to being involved in the transportation of illegal substances, was also dedicated to human trafficking in the Strait of Gibraltar. This information was provided by the Government delegation in the aforementioned province in southeastern Spain, in an operation that took place just a few days after a network of floating gas stations was dismantled in the region.
The operation, according to the same sources, occurred in waters near the Iberian Peninsula, just twelve kilometers from Monte Cenizas. It was at this point that the agents of the Armed Institute surprised the two occupants and proceeded to seize the vessel.
The police operation concluded with the arrest and subsequent towing of the boat, which had four outboard motors that provide a power of 1,200 horsepower, to the port. The detainees, already handcuffed, were also transported to shore by the Civil Guard.
Pending the necessary investigations, and given that the suspects are believed to be involved in human trafficking, it remains to be determined whether they will be charged with a crime against Public Health. It is certain that they will be accused of smuggling, as mere possession of vessels like the one that was seized constitutes an offense in Spain since 2018, the year the corresponding Royal Decree on the matter came into effect.
