La ciudad de Barcelona ha emergido recientemente como uno de los puntos más significativos en el ámbito del narcotráfico a nivel internacional. Reconocida como un importante hub de transporte de marihuana y hachís hacia Europa y como un lugar de encuentro -y desencuentro- de poderosas mafias internacionales, su puerto también juega un papel crucial para las organizaciones que importan cocaína desde América Latina.
El último incidente relacionado fue reportado en la madrugada de este miércoles, hora española, cuando efectivos del Servicio Nacional Aeronaval de Panamá lograron interceptar un nuevo alijo de cocaína que tenía como destino Europa a través del puerto de la capital catalana. Las autoridades panameñas han indicado que la droga pudo haber sido embarcada en Guatemala, aunque no se descarta la posibilidad de una contaminación posterior en el propio país.
La colaboración de los perros entrenados en la detección de sustancias ilegales fue fundamental para identificar el contenedor que ocultaba la droga, la cual se encontraba en mochilas de color oscuro, siguiendo la técnica tradicional del gancho ciego, es decir, sin el conocimiento de la empresa exportadora del contenedor de mercancías.
Este método, como es conocido, requiere de una organización criminal en el destino, en este caso en el puerto de Barcelona, que tenga acceso al interior, lo que sugiere que la corrupción en esta área del noreste de España sigue siendo un problema significativo en la actualidad.

The city of Barcelona has recently emerged as one of the most significant points in the realm of international drug trafficking. Recognized as an important hub for the transport of marijuana and hashish to Europe and as a meeting - and parting - place for powerful international mafias, its port also plays a crucial role for organizations that import cocaine from Latin America.
The latest related incident was reported in the early hours of this Wednesday, Spanish time, when agents from the National Aeronaval Service of Panama managed to intercept a new shipment of cocaine destined for Europe via the port of the Catalan capital. Panamanian authorities have indicated that the drug may have been loaded in Guatemala, although the possibility of subsequent contamination in the country itself cannot be ruled out.
The collaboration of trained dogs in detecting illegal substances was essential in identifying the container that concealed the drug, which was found in dark-colored backpacks, following the traditional technique of the blind hook, meaning without the knowledge of the exporting company of the goods container.
This method, as is known, requires a criminal organization at the destination, in this case at the port of Barcelona, that has access to the interior, suggesting that corruption in this area of northeastern Spain remains a significant problem today.
