La Guardia Civil, en el contexto de la operación Yankao-Mikao, ha llevado a cabo la detención de 20 individuos pertenecientes a una organización criminal dedicada a la fabricación, distribución y comercialización de tabaco falsificado, que operaba a nivel nacional y contaba con posibles conexiones internacionales. En el transcurso de esta operación se han confiscado más de 100 toneladas de tabaco en diferentes etapas de producción. Esta acción representa una de las mayores incautaciones realizadas en España y en toda Europa, constituyendo así un importante golpe contra este tipo de fraude en los últimos años. La cantidad de tabaco incautada supera considerablemente a la confiscada hace algunos meses en Sicilia, donde se sospechaba que se localizaba la mayor fábrica de tabaco ilegal del continente.

La mayoría de los cigarrillos incautados eran falsificaciones de la marca Marlboro (Philip Morris International), que ha colaborado de manera activa con la Guardia Civil, especialmente en aspectos técnicos cruciales para la evaluación y estimación de la producción de esta organización.

Adicionalmente, se han confiscado 384.000 cajetillas de tabaco falsificado que ya estaban listas para su distribución, 107 toneladas de tabaco en hojas y picadura, cuyo valor se estima en más de 10 millones de euros, además de maquinaria industrial.

En el momento de los registros, las líneas de producción y empaquetado de los cigarrillos estaban operativas. La capacidad diaria de producción de producto falso se estimaba entre 850.000 y 900.000 cigarrillos, lo que representa unas 45.000 cajetillas de tabaco. Para ello, contaban con la maquinaria adecuada, cuyo valor se calcula en aproximadamente 500.000 euros.

Durante el registro de una nave industrial en Granollers (Barcelona), los agentes se percataron de que once de los trabajadores de la organización que se encontraban allí estaban en situación irregular en España y que podrían estar siendo explotados por los responsables de la organización.

A estas personas se les imputaron delitos relacionados con la falsificación de tabaco y fueron liberadas por la Guardia Civil, informando a la autoridad judicial sobre su situación.

Los otros nueve detenidos, cuyas edades oscilan entre los 21 y 73 años y que residen en Girona, Lloret de Mar (Girona) y Mollet del Valles (Barcelona), enfrentan la presunta comisión de delitos de contrabando, contra la salud pública, pertenencia a organización criminal, contra la propiedad industrial, contra la Hacienda Pública y contra los derechos de los trabajadores. La autoridad judicial decretó el ingreso en prisión provisional para cuatro de ellos.

La operación fue llevada a cabo por la Unidad Orgánica de Policía Judicial de la Comandancia de la Guardia Civil de Girona, bajo la dirección de la titular del Juzgado de Instrucción número 1 de Igualada (Barcelona), y contó con la colaboración de la Agencia EUROPOL, del Departamento de Investigación Económica y Anticorrupción de la Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) de la Guardia Civil, así como de la Unidad de Policía Judicial de la Zona (UPJZ) de la Guardia Civil de Cataluña.

The Civil Guard, in the context of Operation Yankao-Mikao, has carried out the arrest of 20 individuals belonging to a criminal organization dedicated to the manufacturing, distribution, and marketing of counterfeit tobacco, which operated nationally and had possible international connections. During this operation, more than 100 tons of tobacco at various stages of production have been confiscated. This action represents one of the largest seizures made in Spain and throughout Europe, thus constituting a significant blow against this type of fraud in recent years. The amount of tobacco seized considerably exceeds that confiscated a few months ago in Sicily, where it was suspected that the largest illegal tobacco factory on the continent was located.

Most of the seized cigarettes were counterfeits of the Marlboro brand (Philip Morris International), which has actively collaborated with the Civil Guard, especially in crucial technical aspects for the evaluation and estimation of the production of this organization.

Additionally, 384,000 packs of counterfeit tobacco that were already ready for distribution, 107 tons of leaf and cut tobacco, whose value is estimated at over 10 million euros, as well as industrial machinery, have been confiscated.

At the time of the searches, the production and packaging lines for the cigarettes were operational. The daily production capacity of counterfeit products was estimated to be between 850,000 and 900,000 cigarettes, representing about 45,000 packs of tobacco. For this, they had the appropriate machinery, whose value is estimated at approximately 500,000 euros.

During the search of an industrial warehouse in Granollers (Barcelona), agents noticed that eleven of the workers of the organization present there were in an irregular situation in Spain and could be being exploited by the organization’s leaders.

These individuals were charged with offenses related to tobacco counterfeiting and were released by the Civil Guard, informing the judicial authority about their situation.

The other nine detainees, whose ages range from 21 to 73 years and who reside in Girona, Lloret de Mar (Girona), and Mollet del Valles (Barcelona), face alleged charges of smuggling, crimes against public health, membership in a criminal organization, industrial property crimes, tax offenses, and violations of workers' rights. The judicial authority ordered provisional detention for four of them.

The operation was carried out by the Organic Unit of Judicial Police of the Civil Guard Command in Girona, under the direction of the head of the Investigating Court number 1 of Igualada (Barcelona), and had the collaboration of EUROPOL, the Economic and Anti-Corruption Investigation Department of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, as well as the Judicial Police Unit of the Zone (UPJZ) of the Civil Guard of Catalonia.
